Don’t let the adorable faces hijack your physica Don’t let the adorable faces hijack your physical exam! Did you catch the problem? This puppy corgi is probably one of the cutest patients of the day and he has the best personality! Two things that can easily side track the little details of an exam. Okay, maybe three. He is also the wiggliest little guy! Which can make a physical exam, especially an oral exam that much more difficult. There were no concerns from his human. He is eating normally, playing normally, and doing all the normal puppy things. BUT REMEMBER dogs and cats compensate and adjust very easily. If you didn’t catch it, this kid has quite the overbite. Your vet might call it a Class 2 Malocclusion. You would think overbites/underbites are pretty harmless, however if you look closer you can see his baby canines making contact with his upper gums. OUCH! He’s also using his tongue as a buffer between his lower incisors and the roof of his mouth. The good news is that this is something we can improve, but it usually involves a trip to the vet dentist. With dental month coming up, it is a great reminder to not neglect your pet’s oral health. This can lead to swelling, pain, and restricted blood flow, making it a veterinary emergency! 🔍 Causes • Trauma or injury • Fur or debris trapped around the penis • Infections or swelling • Congenital issues 💡 Prevention Tips ✔️ Keep your dog’s genital area clean and free from debris ✔️ Regular grooming to avoid fur matting ✔️ Monitor for any unusual swelling or discomfort ✔️ Neuter your dog if recommended by your vet If you notice signs of paraphimosis, don’t wait—seek veterinary care immediately! Not sure how these pups can breathe with no air bu Not sure how these pups can breathe with no air but luckily we can help fix that 🐽 Unfortunately brachycephalics (squishy faced dogs) are not blessed with great genetics. Their flat faced conformation results in poor respiratory tracts which leads to complications with breathing and airflow. The more common findings with these breeds include small nostrils, elongated soft palates, and tracheal hypoplasia to name a few.
